Apple Pressing

It’s that time of year – is your mouth watering at the thought of freshly-pressed apple juice? Oooh, so delicious. Or are you planning to make some cider … mine turned out well last year, by sheer fluke.

Equipment will be available to use at the station as follows:

Saturday 7th October, 12 noon – 5pm

Sunday 8th October, 12 noon – 5pm

Monday 9th October, 10 am – 5 pm

Tuesday 10th October, by arrangement only if necessary.

* Please let me know you’re planning to come with date & rough time of arrival, an idea of quantity – then I’ll be able to give you a steer as to whether you might need to hang around a bit to access the equipment.

* You need to bring your own bottles / containers to take away your juice.

* Please bring your apples ready for pressing, ie with bad bits already cut out.

* Suggested donation of £5-£10 please to help cover costs. Any surplus will be divided between Glaisdale Head Chapel and Holyrood House, Thirsk. Thank you.

3 Minute Story Competition

We are looking for short stories to be read aloud to passengers on the Esk Valley Railway between Middlesbrough and Whitby, where the minimum time between stations is three minutes.

Closing Date: 1st April 2023

Pop-up Plays on the Esk Valley Railway

In an effort to maintain some element of surprise, at present I will only say that these are planned for the Sunday of a Spring Bank Holiday weekend. Further information may be leaked as time goes on….

Mini-Arts Fest, Saturday 3rd June from 12 Noon

Winning entries from both the Drama and Story Competitions will be show-cased at this event, to be held in the Robinson Institute, Glaisdale, as part of the Esk Valley Community Earth Festival.

With entry by donation, expect a lively and entertaining afternoon and evening with music, dancing, workshops and – we hope – visual arts. More detailed programme information will be posted as time goes on.
